About this deal

She’s just screaming words, I think. They’re just words. But she’s screaming, screaming at the top of her lungs, with an agony that seems almost an exaggeration, and it’s causing devastation I never knew possible. It’s like she just—imploded.

Overall, Defy Me is a book that continues to capture the hearts of fans with its emotional intensity and thought-provoking themes. It reinforces the strength of the series in creating characters that readers genuinely care about and offers a promising continuation of the "Shatter Me" saga. The author weaves a tale that urges readers to question the role of memory in shaping one's identity and underscores the importance of self-discovery for personal growth. Additionally, Mafi's storytelling intentions extend to shedding light on political power dynamics, the ethical dilemmas of rebellion, and the consequences of manipulation and control.i don't have enough characters left in this review to make a list of all the things i loved. there were imperfect parts, and i was wary that i would have to pretend this never happened, but i can only repeat: OH MY GOD This ends the original Shatter Me trilogy, but Mafi wrote three more novels 4 years after the completion of the first trilogy. James and I aren’t running anymore, Adam says, his eyes going cold as he speaks. I understand if the rest of you have to leave, but James and I will stay here. I was a Sector 45 soldier. I lived on this base. Maybe they’ll give me immunity. Emmaline causes Ella’s manacles to open, and fall off. Evie walks in. Ella kills her. Emmaline says “thank you.” Warner is enigmatic and exhibits a complex personality. He's initially depicted as a powerful, stoic figure with a mysterious past. His character is marked by strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion to Juliette.

Defy Me is a pivotal installment in the "Shatter Me" series, marked by personal and political revelations. The characters face betrayals, test their loyalties, and navigate a world on the brink of war. The story's arc is one of self-discovery, love, and rebellion, and it sets the stage for the series' future developments and the ultimate resolution of the conflict between the characters and the Reestablishment. Defy Me Book Summary: Themes and Messages: So far, I would rate this five stars if I could. And that's not just because it's a Tahereh Mafi book--trust me, I was worried about this book. But everything so far is done really smartly and anything I'm upset about is almost entirely driven by the fact that it's not matching up with my expectations, which is an entirely unfounded criticism to make, so i'm withholding it and getting over it. Remember when we thought Juliette accidentally slaughtered hundreds of people with her voice? Well, sike! Don’t get it wrong, Juliette is a powerhouse. But the symposium didn’t quiet play out like we first thought. It was a set up, and next thing you know… Blink and you’ll lose your Supreme Leader. Juliette is with her parents. They torture her. Her mother tells her that the original plan was a mistake. Evie says that now, it’s about her. Kenji can’t belive what just happened. He passes out. Adam shakes his head. He looks like he might throttle me. But James is smiling, which is really all that matters.I know everything is crazy right now, but I need you to snap out of this, J. Wake up. Get out of your head. We have to get out of here.” kenji is.... everything in this book. the BEST companion for juliette, being there for her and letting her rant and providing comic relief. at the same time, telling warner to get his shit together and being the cheerleader for him that he was for juliette in unravel me. you can see the loyalty and trust developing already and im EMO Warner – He is stopped by Max. Anderson is still alive. They tell him more about Operation Synthesis, and that Emmaline is not actually psychokinetic, but telepathic, and that she is very, very powerful. More than anyone ever imagined. Paris Warner!! Last time we saw him, Juliette, you know, shot him. Twice. But it seems the old Supreme Commander survived with a little healing. Warner, his son, doesn’t take the news so well and attempts to murder him. Again. And Kenji, my dear Kenji. Wherefore art thou Kenji? All he was was an incessant comedic relief. It's like all the strength and resilience he brought to the first few books was no where to be found here. And every other character from the previous books? Who cares!? Cause Mafi sure as hell didn't.

The novellas, on the other hand, are shorter works that provide additional insight into the series’ characters and world-building. They are typically told from the perspective of a supporting character and fill in gaps in the timeline between the main novels. In the case of Shatter Me, there are four novellas: Destroy Me, Fracture Me, Shadow Me, and Reveal Me. One day, she says, chasing after me, her eyes bright with tears. If he doesn’t stop hurting you, I swear I’ll do it. You’ll see. Defy Me thoughtfully explores themes such as identity, power, trust, and resistance. The depth with which these themes are examined invites readers to contemplate their own experiences and beliefs. This book feels like an afterthought, like Tahereh wanted to extend this series so badly she just conjured up idea after idea and when she didn't know which one to choose, she just crammed them all together in one damned book. All in all, I wasn't a big fan of this book, I was confused most of the time and annoyed for the rest of it.In this new, turbulent reality, the one person I recognize is him. My memories of him - memories of us - have done something to me. I've changed somewhere deep inside. I feel different. Heavier, like my feet have been more firmly planted, liberated by certainty, free to grow roots here in my own self, free to trust unequivocally in the strength and steadiness of my own heart. It's an empowering discovery, to find that I can trust myself - even when I'm not myself - to make the right choices. To know for certain now that there was at least one mistake I never made. I don’t remember much about Castle in the original trilogy to be completely honest but here he was kind of a central character and he acted as sort of an advisor to both Warner and Juliette. He felt like the archetypical mentor figure of YA that I feel has kind of been lost in the past years’ new releases. I liked that he also tried to not completely overstep his boundaries, even though I found he could have tried to help more.

I can’t believe I let myself be distracted by a pretty face. I should’ve trusted Warner when he told me she was hiding something. It hits me with a painful force, the reminder. Of just how much I love her. God, I love all of her. Her impossibilities, her exasperations. I love how gentle she is with me when we’re alone. How soft and kind she can be in our quiet moments. How she never hesitates to defend me. Nothing in her world is what it seemed. She thought she'd defeated The Reestablishment. She thought she'd finally taken control of her life, her power, her pain. But a lifetime of lies unravelling before her has changed all that. No. I don’t think they’d rush in like that, not with so many soldiers, James says, his blue eyes bright. Not if they had something to hide. Tahereh Mafi's writing style is poetic and evocative. Her use of language and metaphors adds a layer of richness to the narrative, immersing readers in the emotional landscapes of the characters. The prose is well-crafted and enhances the reading experience.

The novels are the main books in the series that drive the overall plot forward and are typically longer in length. In the case of Shatter Me, there are three main novels: Shatter Me, Unravel Me, and Ignite Me. These books follow the story of Juliette and her fight against the ruling government, as well as her relationships with other characters in the series. I would just know, okay? I cut him off. I would know. And they’re not dead. I take a deep, steadying breath. We’re not going to freak out, I say as calmly as possible. "There has to be a logical explanation. People don’t just disappear, right?" NAZEERA COULD CHOKE ME WITH HER BARE HANDS AND I WOULD THANK HER FOR IT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO BLESSED BY A FEMALE FRIENDSHIP. HER CHALLENGING KENJI ABOUT COVERING HER HAIR. HER FLIPPING HIM OFF. HER POWERS. HER KINDNESS AND COMPANIONSHIP. I'M UTTERLY DECEASED Ian sighs, hard. Listen, I’m not trying to be an asshole. I know you were close with them. But let’s be real: they weren’t close with the rest of us. And maybe that makes me less invested in all this, but it also makes me more level-headed. the trans character is essentially outed while her twin brother is introducing her to Juliette, who hasn’t met her before
