The soft padding of the tongue and around the ankles is very comfortable. The round heel and the semicircular shape of the forefoot make the La Sportivas extremely comfortable to walk on. The cushioning of the heel and forefoot is excellent. The removable foam insole also dampens. The insole is made of a nice soft foam. A lightweight and comfortable mountaineering boot for hillwalking, via ferrata and approach routes - the La Sportiva TX4 Mid GTX!

Super grippy Vibram MegaGrip compound with Impact Brake System and differentiated lugs that enhance traction uphill and provide a sure grip downhill. The fit of the La Sportiva TX5 Low GTX is slightly small and therefore a half size up to a size bigger is recommended. The shoes are suitable for normal feet. The ladies version is built on a ladies last that is narrower at the heel. Construction So far I have no complaints with these boots in terms of breathability, but I haven’t hiked with them in 90 degree weather yet…although I may be tempted to try since they are so comfortable. La Sportiva does not offer this style without a Gore-tex membrane yet, but who knows, maybe they will eventually. RecommendationAside from the low-cut ankle, this shoe feels very much like a hiking boot, but that’s not particularly surprising given La Sportiva’s expertise and heritage. Image: Steve Sayers Let’s start with the outer shell. The Hike Mid GTX has seamless uppers with welded TPU overlays. There’s also air mesh on the uppers which makes these more like running shoes than standard boots, dialing up durability while also ensuring breathability. Of course it’s all made bomb-proof by the GORE-TEX linings which deliver next-level waterproofness and breathability. And it’s molded into a wide comfort-fit TX last for extra room for people like me with big paddles for feet. The Vibram MegaGrip sole construction is stiff. The front flex point is where it should be: Centered under the forefoot. The sole is extremely torsional stiff and the shoes can be resoled. In the shoe you will find a breathable and waterproof membrane from Gore-Tex. In particular, the transition from the Gore-Tex material to the padding around the ankles is very nicely made. The laces run through eyelets from rope that also pulls the heel counter forwards. Shoe entry I’ve worn these at work after a pre-work hike through creeks and snow and mud. I felt comfortable all day. They also took care of me through the hikes, obviously.

The leather upper and the good heel fixation keep the foot nicely in place. It is also nice that the heel is pulled forward when the laces are closed up, which contributes to that fixation. The shoes are protected by a super bumper. You can go lighter in this category with an option like Asolo’s Falcon GV, which is also the more comfortable boot.
