In 2018, a framed copy of the work got spontaneously shredded during an auction, by way of a mechanical device Banksy had hidden in the frame. Banksy confirmed that he was responsible for the shredding and gave the altered piece a new name, Love is in the Bin. Sotheby's said it was "the first work in history ever created during a live auction." It lasted for a total of four months and depicts a council worker cleaning up ancient cave paintings. Banksy suggests that people who do not understand art will often destroy it. 38.Blank Walls are Criminal Despite being world-famous, Banksy’s identity remains officially unknown. In 2008, The Mail on Sunday claimed that Banksy is Robin Gunningham – but he denied that he was Banksy. Street art develops into multiple forms in public places or on the streets. Banksy's early work was heavily influenced by the punk and hip-hop cultures that were prevalent at the time, as well as by the DIY ethic of street art and the rebellious spirit of the punk movement. Over time, Banksy began to incorporate more political and social commentary into his work, using his art to critique government policies, consumer culture, and the media, among other topics. Banksy released the unsigned and signed prints in 2004/2005 in low edition sizes; there are just 150 Girl With Balloon signed prints, and 600 unsigned, making it one of the most sought-after Bansky prints in his entire oeuvre. Banksy has several times used variants of this design to support social campaigns: in 2005 about the West Bank barrier, in 2014 about the Syrian refugee crisis, and also about the 2017 UK election.
