About this deal

In 2018, a framed copy of the work got spontaneously shredded during an auction, by way of a mechanical device Banksy had hidden in the frame. Banksy confirmed that he was responsible for the shredding and gave the altered piece a new name, Love is in the Bin. Sotheby's said it was "the first work in history ever created during a live auction." It lasted for a total of four months and depicts a council worker cleaning up ancient cave paintings. Banksy suggests that people who do not understand art will often destroy it. 38.Blank Walls are Criminal Despite being world-famous, Banksy’s identity remains officially unknown. In 2008, The Mail on Sunday claimed that Banksy is Robin Gunningham – but he denied that he was Banksy. In 2016, The Mail also reported that scientists at Queen Mary University of London have used geographic profiling to prove that he is indeed Mr Gunningham . Banksy's "There is Always Hope" is one of the artist's most iconic works, featuring a young girl reaching for a red heart-shaped balloon. The image has become a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of adversity, and has been reproduced on countless products and in various forms of street art. Street art develops into multiple forms in public places or on the streets. The term includes: the practice of graffiti, use of stencils, paint and markers, video projection, creation of posters on streets and sidewalks. Street art is considered a movement of artists who refuse to be associated with the masses, who want to raise attention by showing their political opinions, without being associated with a particular art form. The street artists are basically the ones who prefer to perform without permission, without prior consent, without taboos and without limits. Street art can be seen everywhere in the world, since it has no boundaries, nor sex, nor predetermined delimitation. All this has contributed to making this form of art increasingly original and popular.

Banksy's early work was heavily influenced by the punk and hip-hop cultures that were prevalent at the time, as well as by the DIY ethic of street art and the rebellious spirit of the punk movement. Over time, Banksy began to incorporate more political and social commentary into his work, using his art to critique government policies, consumer culture, and the media, among other topics. Banksy released the unsigned and signed prints in 2004/2005 in low edition sizes; there are just 150 Girl With Balloon signed prints, and 600 unsigned, making it one of the most sought-after Bansky prints in his entire oeuvre. Banksy has several times used variants of this design to support social campaigns: in 2005 about the West Bank barrier, in 2014 about the Syrian refugee crisis, and also about the 2017 UK election. A 2017 Samsung poll ranked Girl with Balloon as the United Kingdom's number one favourite artwork. One such person is of course Justin Bieber and Banksy took to social media to air his disgust and in so doing proving he is at least not a Belieber. Residents discovered the workaround 6:20 in the morning where a child, possibly cupid, is shown with a slingshot shooting flowers above her. 2.Escaping Prisoner – Reading Prison In recent times, some well-know celebrities have chosen to ink our beloved Balloon Girl on his arm.

According to Wikipedia, In July 2017, a Samsung poll of 2,000 people from the United Kingdom asked participants to rank twenty pieces of British art. It’s unclear if she voluntarily let go of the balloon, suggesting an image of childlike independence, or if she unintentionally let go of the dangling rope and is staring in misery as the balloon floats away. In any case, Banksy combined the piece with the words “There is always hope” when it was painted on London’s Waterloo Bridge (later erased by the authorities). As a result, the painting has come to symbolize both childlike innocence and the need of being hopeful even in the harshest of circumstances. The red balloon, being the single color, is an iconic emblem of youth and freedom with which many of us identify. More than just a toy, it symbolizes the fragility of everything it represents: purity, dreams, optimism, and love. It is one of several works by Banksy that deal with the issue of childhood. It is one of his last murals, appeared on two walls of a private garage in the area of Taibach in Port Talbot, an industrial city of South Wales, considered among the most polluted areas of United Kingdom mainly due to the presence of old steel mills. The inhabitants are used to cleaning the ash away from the parked cars or the windows of their homes. This was much to the surprise of the guests, who all wondered: Was Banksy there? 7.The Mild Mild West – Bristol Painted on a wall in Israel’s West Bank in 2005, this is one of Banksy’s most well-known and most political messages. For my children, it is like the end of the world. However, our Balloon Girl, doesn’t seem too perturbed but possibly it’s her understanding that ‘There is Always Hope’ and all is not lost. Using his signature graffiti stencil technique, this motif is internationally recognisable. Banksy here in this work makes a comment on how blank walls are just empty, boring spaces until they are decorated by something better.
