Poet Laureate Simon Armitage has brought together 30 poets from around the world to create a powerful new body of work, A Poetic Declaration, which will be unveiled at three events as part of the Ripples Of Hope Festival. A snippet of his speech gives an idea of its uplift: "It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be honored alongside previously announced laureates Frank Baker, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Siris, and Brian Moynihan, Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of America, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Kennedy began his speech by describing a country wrought with a history of racism and slavery. As he does so, he seems to be suggesting that he’s describing the unjust conditions in South Africa.
