About this deal

Switching to Movie mode does hamper the directness and projection of dialogue, and the speaker system isn’t quite crisp and clean enough to maintain complete control at particularly cacophonous moments, but for an integrated sound solution at this level, it’s good. You should still budget for a soundbar or home cinema system if you’re able to, though. Verdict Information about the minimum amount of time, in which the pixels change from one color to another. Very often the manufacturer provides the response time for transition from grey-to-grey (G2G). Advancements over the 2020 OLED+935 include HDMI 2.1 capability that makes this OLED better suited for gaming, while the OS is Android TV 10 (no confirmation as to whether Google TV is coming yet).

This time there's a 3.1.2ch Dolby Atmos soundbar strapped onto the stand which makes for a very tidy flagship OLED TV solution indeed. It comes in 48in, 55in and 65in sizes and the satisfaction that each time the soundbar has been tuned to make sure that the audio sounds as if it's coming from the centre of the screen. Philips hasn’t always been the best in this area, compared with the competition, but it’s starting to come close more recently. It’s a little complicated to get the desired result, thanks to one too many options to choose from, but overall we liked the results from the Movie setting, which helped to smooth out a judder-y fight scene in Squid Games episode 1. Philips’ new Pure Cinema Motion is also worth a look, but it looked overly smooth to us on occasion, and overall less natural. The 5th Gen P5 AI engine powers the show and includes the Film Detection feature, as well as working with the set’s light sensor to tweak images depending on room brightness. In terms of gaming, this Mini LED is up to date with the latest trends and adds AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro for reducing tearing and stutter. The Auto Game Mode should help reduce latency compared to the 2020 TVs. With the maturity of technologies such as OLED and QLED every year the competition for best all round television gets more competitive. Over the last few years Philips has been on a staggering rise to join this conversation so when I had the chance to sit down with their newest OLED model I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Read on as we examine the new Philips 65OLED856 and see how it fits into a very competitive market. The PUS8506 uses Android TV 10 as its UI, and while it hasn’t jumped across to the newer, fresher Google TV interface as yet (and we’re not sure if it will be upgraded in the future), the improved design of Android TV ensures you don’t feel too left out.

Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. For the time being, the OLED+935 continues through to 2021 with its successor likely coming in the second half of the year. The OLED+935 has the 4th Gen P5 AI processor with its dedicated AI Machine Learn Sharpness function, and improved versions of the AI Smart Bit Enhancement system and Perfect Natural Reality (PNR) function for upscaling sub-4K images and handling motion. As with the product it replaces, the 55OLED807 has a 2.1-channel audio system – some of which is visible on the TV’s rear panel. There’s an all-in total of 70 watts of power, driving four high/mid drivers and a subwoofer. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage. While pricier Philips sets have enjoyed an audio partnership with Bowers & Wilkins, that isn’t the case here, and there are just two downward firing 10W drivers to handle the TV’s sound.

With a name like “The One”, the Philips PUS8506 really needed to come in a range of screen sizes to ensure it fits the bill for as many people as possible. And with five screen sizes to choose from, it should have most situations that covered. Disney+ subscription required. Subject to terms at https://www.disneyplus.com (c) 2020 Disney and its related entities. Disney+ is available in selected languages and countries. The latest and most complicated version of Philips’ already pretty complicated P5 picture processing takes care of quality. It’s AI-assisted and, quite apart from the fearsome amount of processing it gets through, it brings Philips’ cutting-edge anti burn-in technology down from the flagship models and into the mainstream. Philips is renowned for its video processing and the new 3rd Generation P5 chip is onboard the 854. Upscaling is good with 576i SD broadcast looking as good as you can expect for such a low resolution on a 4K panel. HD Blu-ray and streaming looks nice and sharp with good line definition and no obvious signs of edge ringing within the content. We didn’t notice any artefacts with upscaled images in the accurate modes, even with test patterns. Obviously, with the P5 chip, you have lots of image manipulation options including extra sharpening and edge enhancement settings if you really want to go to town with these settings, but when set to off we didn’t see anything being applied that shouldn’t be there.

The longest time for my TV I’ve seen is 522 minutes before the OFFRS above and 254 hours before the JB, so that’s around 8 hours before needing the 10 minute refresh - does that fit with your on time? The OLED+986 is what Philips describes as a statement TV. It comes in just one size. It's a seriously premium build of all glass and metal, where possible, with a Bowers & Wilkins three-speaker sound system built into the floorstand. It's also possible to wallmount this set-up. One big improvement over the 2020 model, though, is the inclusion of HDMI 2.1 (the 805 had four HDMI 2.0 ports), meaning the 806 should do you fine for top-range gaming performance on a PS5 or Xbox Series X console, supporting 4K/120fps gameplay. The new Fast Motion Clarity feature has only been announced for the OLED 800 series, but it serves to avoid the motion blurring effect for a gradual transition from one image to the next. Anti burn-in solution on more OLEDs The Apple TV app is missing from Android TV entirely, which is disappointing but of little surprise. While neither is as good, you can at least get your pay-as-you-go movie streaming fix from Google Play Movies & TV or Rakuten, both of which support HDR10 via the Philips.

The OLED856/806 also comes with a version of Philips’ anti-burn in technology that detects static logos and reduces the light output to avoid burn in. Where the OLED856 differs from the 806 is its T-bar stand, which will give it a higher profile in a room. The percentage of the approximate area, taken by the active part of the screen, to the total front area. With the OLED805, Philips has put itself in the running for a top prize in our 2020 Awards. It produces stunningly crisp and detailed pictures from all sources, delivers far more accomplished audio than most rivals, adds awesome Ambilight to the mix, and has a lower price tag than its LG, Sony, Panasonic and Samsung equivalents. Although I've now got a good level of understanding on all the options available to me, I'll refrain from listing all the things I've tried away from the obvious just in case someone has an idea for something I may have missed. We make big reductions to the Colour, OLED Contrast, Sharpness and Brightness settings, and turn off Perfect Natural Reality, Perfect Contrast and Ultra Resolution. You may well find that using one of the other presets as your starting point results in fewer adjustments being necessary. TV is wall mounted, inside the sweet spot of 10-20cm away from the wall. Wall is mushroom in colour, so dark cream, richer magnolia kinda deal. If I set the lounge light option to display green, then I get a fairly decent green colour, however when set to follow video and there are scenes of trees/grassland/jungle etc I get yellowy brown at best. I've set the wall colour to the closest match I can see but no amount of fiddling with other brightness / saturation settings seems to be able to fix this.
