There are a total of 12 different ship types available to players, of increasing cost, efficacy in battle and room for cargo. They range from the small pinnace, to a large ship of the line. Finally the remaining person cards provide benefits on a player’s turn. The Governor is worth 0 victory points, and costs 8 coins, but allows the player to select an additional card on their turn. The Admiral card gives players an immediate 2 coins any time there are 5 or more cards in the Harbor when it is their turn to choose a card. Finally, the Jester card gives players an immediate coin if there are NO cards in the Harbor when it is their turn to choose a card.

The additional content of the Gold Edition was also included in the 1.30 patch for this version of the game, and was the foundation for the international version. Spellings Up to three ships of different colour means you can take one card from the harbour. Four ships will mean two cards and five ships means three cards can be taken. However, the more cards you flip the more likely you will pull a ship of the same colour, ending your turn. It also means more choice for your opponents when you are done choosing.If the drawn card is an Expedition, put it in the middle of the table but apart from the harbor display. An Expedition will stay there until a player claims it by fulfilling it. Winner of the game will be the player who was able to acquire the most victory points in his personal display. The Multiplayer mode allows up to 4 players to play through LAN or over the Internet. To hire 1 Person, a player has to pay an amount of coins (put onto the discard pile) equal to the cost depicted on the bottom part of the Person he wishes to hire. He puts the Person into his personal display and may from now on use the ability on the top part of the card (the banner). All abilities are explained at the end of the rules.Expedition cards offer players another path to victory, allowing them to collect sets of person cards which feature anchors, crosses, or cabins. If you are playing with 5 players, put this card in the middle of the table instead. Now shuffle all remaining cards and set them face down on the table. This is the draw pile.
