About this deal

Chris Carey, Executive Producer and Managing Director, Dancing Ledge Productions, said: “We are so excited that BAFTA nominated Jasmine Jobson - one of the most brilliant acting talents to emerge in the last few years – is our lead in Platform 7. This is an unnerving, chilling and deeply unsettling novel from Louise Doughty, a literary blend of haunting ghost story and thriller revolving around two suicides that take place on the eponymous Platform Seven at Peterborough Station. In the very early hours of a bitterly cold November morning, a man makes his way to an isolated part of the station, far from any member of staff, thinking himself entirely alone as he walks purposefully to the edge of the platform. He is not alone, he is closely observed by the ghost of Lisa Evans, a secondary school teacher, but she is unable to intervene and prevent the tragedy that ensues. Unusually, the story is narrated by Lisa's ghost.

At times being reminded that we were seeing their lives through ghost-Lisa seemed to offset how realistic these characters were. Ghost-Lisa herself seems to fluctuated between being “ a ghost, invisible and silent, nothing but consciousness” who doesn't have memories of her past, a body, or a sense of her own humanity (“ When you don’t have a body, time is no longer even or consistent: it stretches and bends, folds in on itself. ”) little more than an impassive and intangible observer, and yet, she also comes across as the cliché of a ghost, one that wouldn't be out of place in A Christmas Carol. Darren demonstrated in all aspects of the care that he was involved the ability to adhere to the Code, and clearly identified the Duty of Candour. He also had to think critically and used an array of evidence to draw conclusions and actions about the care he provided. One of the least successful aspects of this book is that it tries, and doesn't really succeed, in combining two different genres and concepts together. This is a novel that makes for an interesting construct. It ponders the nature of a purgatorial afterlife – although at times it can feel a bit woolly – but it gets into its stride when describing the intricacies of the relationship between Lisa and Matthew. It also looks at the effect of suicide on the wider community, how many people inevitably do become involved in the aftermath and the toll it can take on individuals who remain in the world. Lisa can also observe the life that comes after her demise. The story is excellent on people and setting and offers readers a chilling frisson, a read, poised on the knife-edge of life. Dancing Ledge Productions is one of the UK’s leading production companies creating; bold, authored, award-winning drama and nurturing future generations of creative talent. Run by multi BAFTA award-winning CEO Laurence Bowen and Emmy award-winning Managing Director Chris Carey, the company’s most recent productions include: The Responder starring; Martin Freeman and The Salisbury Poisonings starring; Anne-Marie Duff, Annabel Scholey and Rafe Spall. When it does air, the four-parter will be an ITVX premiere, exclusive to ITV’s new free streaming service, many months ahead of linear transmission on ITV1 main channel. This novel has all the elements of dark fiction - paranormal, psychological, suspenseful thriller. There were parts of the story that endeared me into appreciating this read, and there were parts of the story line I had wished were more cohesive. And I expected more closure towards the end.

What is the point where a human being stops being a human being and becomes a thing? Most people think it happens with death but Dalmar knows it can happen a long time before then if it needs to, so that other people can bear what they are seeing. ” Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy, Noughts and Crosses) will take the lead role of Lisa, joined by Toby Regbo as Matt (Chivalry, A Discovery of Witches) Yaamin Chowdhury (The Lazarus Project, The Essex Serpent) as Akash and Phil Davis as Edward (Trying, Viewpoint). Commissioned by ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill from Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions, (The Responder, The Salisbury Poisonings), the 4x60” series has been adapted by acclaimed and multi award-winning screenwriter Paula Milne (Him, The Politician’s Husband, White Heat) from the globally renowned, best-selling novel of the same title by Louise Doughty. Jasmine Jobson will take on the role of Lisa. The 27 year-old star exploded on to our screens as Jaq, in Netflix crime drama Top Boy, for which she was nominated for a BAFTA. Her other screen credits include Noughts and Crosses, Dark Heart and feature film Surge.Jasmine will be joined by Toby Regbo as Matt ( Chivalry, A Discovery of Witches), Yaamin Chowdhury ( The Lazarus Project, The Essex Serpent) as Akash and Phil Davis as Edward ( Trying, Viewpoint). ITV Head of Drama Polly Hill on Platform 7 Platform Seven is beautifully written I sank into the writing of it - and the premise was clever and involving. Told from the point of view of a ghost, haunting a train station, there is a mix of mystery and drama that was immediately engaging. Based on the novel of the same name by Louise Doughty, the "haunting" and "nail-biting" series follows Lisa (Jobson) after she witnesses a catastrophic event on platform 7 of a railway station. The trauma somehow jogs her memory and reveals a connection between her own life and the event. Williams’s ninth novel, This is Happiness is set in the fictional village of Faha, in west Clare, Ireland. The narrator, Noel, now a 78-year-old man, recounts the experiences of his youth in the late 1950s, when a young Noel has withdrawn from the seminary and been sent to stay with his grandparents. Meanwhile, electricity is finally arriving in the village. This is a story of faith, youth, and first love, but also a careful portrayal of the village itself, and the daily lives of the parishioners who live in it, in a world on the cusp of change.

Toby Regbo ( A Discovery of Witches), Yaamin Chowdhury ( The Lazardus Project), Phil Davis ( Trying) and Reece Ritchie ( The Outpost) will also star. There are definite shades of Into the Darkest Corner and Killing Me Softly, and a strength is Doughty's forensic application of detail and specificity as Lisa's fairy-tale romance starts to drip-feed unease before turning down some dark routes. Powerhouse screenwriter Paula Milne’s brilliant scripts, based on Louise Doughty’s best-selling novel, have also attracted a stunning supporting cast alongside Jasmine; Toby Regbo, Yaamin Chowdhury, Reece Ritchie and the incomparable Phil Davis also star and this combination, along with our superb creative team behind the camera, promise to deliver a properly compelling story that will delight and surprise audiences on ITVX later this year.”As the narrative slowly progresses ghost-Lisa seems increasingly incongruous. Although she initially stresses that she is a mere consciousness with no links to her past, she can also 'see', 'float', and move her human-shaped-ghost-body.
