I had this book in my TBR for a while, then I saw a premise that went “You’re not welcome here, godkiller.” and I knew I had to read it. And thank gods I did because it was awesome. It was literally like The Witcher, without the misogyny of course. I guess that’s one of the reasons I loved it so much. (I quit reading The Witcher series at the fourth book because as a woman, the author’s view of women made me very uncomfortable.) There’s a lot going on in Pizzolo’s wonderfully bizarre story, but its most distinctive feature is a barren, nearly dead world.

The prologue grabbed my attention immediately and there were elements of the story that liked. The complexities of gods and faith as something with great potential for both good and evil is interesting.

The enemies-to-lover trope is skillfully used here, with the characters initially suspicious of each other but then gradually trusting and opening up to one another.
