About this deal

The bagless technology is somewhat self-explanatory and means that you don’t have to spend extra money on replacement bags. While that’s a positive, emptying the dust container on these cleaners does produce dust clouds, no matter how careful you are. This means bagless cleaners aren’t the best for those who suffer from dust allergies. Another Dyson innovation is ‘the Ball’. This, as the name suggests, is a large ball upon which the vacuum cleaner pivots. Thanks to this single pivot, upright Dyson cleaners are easier to manoeuvre around the house in comparison to traditional wheel-based vacuums.

Weight isn’t everything when it comes to ease of use though. We’ve tested several handheld vacuums that are technically lightweight but feel bulky or heavy to hold, often due to poor design choices. Fortunately, we didn’t feel this was the case when testing the V7 Trigger, as it always feels balanced and easy to manoeuvre around the home.Like all Dyson vacuums, the V7 Trigger is a bagless model that’s built with two tiers of radial cyclones to capture microscopic dust and other particles. The cyclonic design also prevents loss of suction as the vacuum fills up, which is a common problem for cheaper handheld vacs. green laser light that helps you spot where your hard floor is dirty; and the anti-tangle brush bar floor head for carpet, which guides hair off the roller and into the collection bin before it can wrap itself around the roller and become a problem. Key specs – Dimensions (WDH): 280 x 390 x 1,065mm; Weight: 7.4kg; Bin capacity: 1.8l; Vacuum type: Upright; Bagless: Yes; Suction power – stated: 90AW

Although it’s no shorter than the V15, the collection bin is smaller at 350ml, and it doesn’t contain as many of Dyson’s cyclones, reducing the overall suction power to 150AW. Don’t let that put you off, though, because there’s still enough power here to perform a fantastic cleaning job, albeit in a smaller unit that doesn’t take up as much room, so is easier to store. It’s also a good deal cheaper than the V15.

The Dyson V7 Trigger is ideal for use in tight spaces - but it's not powerful enough to be your only vacuum cleaner

We think the Dyson V7 Trigger is an excellent handheld vacuum. The 30-minute run-time is long enough for almost any small cleaning job, plus we found it provides great cleaning performance on almost any surface. Cleaning your entire house with a small handheld vacuum such as V7 Trigger will be a challenge. However, small tasks are where the V7 really comes into its own, whether it’s removing dust from your skirting boards, cleaning out crumbs from your car, or keeping the stair carpets clean. Unlike older Dyson cordless vacuums, the V7 Trigger has the company’s new hygienic emptying system. To empty the vac, you pull up the cylinder to allow dust and debris to fall into a bin. The great thing about this system is that you (usually) don’t need to touch the dirt, as it’s pushed out of the canister by a silicone collar. Uprights tend to have the largest capacity, so you spend less time emptying them, and you can cover larger areas in a shorter amount of time than other models. On the downside, they’re heavier than other models, and the mains cord and detachable hose mean they’re not the most convenient type of vacuum to use on stairs.

The Dyson V7 Trigger is a premium handheld vacuum. It’s a pricey model, but offers the same design and cleaning power as the excellent Dyson V7 cordless vacuum. The Trigger also comes with a motorised tool, several accessories, and a 0.54 litre dust canister. The V7 Trigger is pretty scarce when it comes to attachments. In the box you'll get the crevice tool for getting down the side of your car seats, and the combination tool, with a wider barrel for larger surface areas and a brush addition for hard surfaces.Note: There are two suction power modes on this model. Dyson has confusingly named the regular mode as “Powerful” and the boost mode as “MAX.” Don’t be fooled – the “Powerful” mode is just the standard suction setting. Tools & Accessories Unscrew the filter of the Dyson vacuum cleaner and remove the dust container from the vacuum cleaner (with the red clip) Just like the larger V7 Absolute, the Trigger sports the hygienic bin system which makes emptying the reservoir simple and painless.

The mini motorised tool is great for cleaning most surfaces, but it’s too bulky for awkward locations. It may also be too abrasive for delicate surfaces. For this reason, Dyson has included the following tools: Battery life is excellent and cleaning power is as good as it gets, with 18 of Dyson’s cyclones built into the vacuum. The larger size means you’ll be able to cover more ground before needing to empty the dust and detritus; ideal if you have a big house with lots of places for dirt to collect. For basic tasks, the standard suction mode provides enough power to remove loose dirt and debris. But we did need to switch to “Max” mode for stubborn dirt or hair, which reduces battery run-time to around 6-minutes. This is still enough for spot cleaning, but not much more than that. Keep in mind that the battery life is greatly reduced when you switch the vacuum to “MAX” power mode. On this setting, we found that the vacuum tends to run out of charge in around 5-6 minutes, which isn’t much time at all. It also takes approximately 3.5 hours to fully recharge, which is around average for a cordless vacuum.

However, while it doesn’t offer the extreme suction of Dyson’s cordless models on their Boost mode, the Ball Animal is more powerful than the standard modes of such machines. With the added benefit that it isn’t going to run out and require recharging, this makes it perfect for larger, more serious cleaning jobs. The V7 Trigger provides powerful suction for a handheld vacuum cleaner. It can’t match the V8, V10, and V11 when it comes to raw power, but we found that it does a brilliant job of most cleaning tasks for a lower price. Let’s take a closer look at how the Trigger performs when faced with common handheld vacuum tasks. Around the Home
