About this deal

When the Queen had returned from an engagement after wearing her trusty shoes, they would then be aired on shoe trees, before being stored individually in silk or cotton drawstring bags. A fitting at the Palace following, where any final adjustments, including a clean and polish, were made, before the shoes were officially ready for an outing.

Can you find any examples of forces taking place in the illustrations? Create your own force diagrams using arrows. However she did have her own smaller private collection, which she has been known to loan to members of the royal family for formal occasions and state visits, at her own discretion. Not one to shy away from a bright and eye-catching ensemble, Her Majesty could more often than not be seen donning head-to-toe fuchsia or the season's 'It' shade of blue. He sent it to her, along with a new handbag. 'She wrote to thank me,' he said. 'And a few weeks later, her shopper appeared in our showroom.'

The Queen and Princess Margaret initially dressed very much alike, mirroring their mother’s style. As they matured they began to wear berets on a jaunty angle, both for official occasions and when they became part of the Girls Guides of the Palace. Make a list of the verbs used in the story. How does the author describe the movement of the hat as it flies away? Aage Thaarup – Danish - often worked with dressmaker Norman Hartnell. Made hats for the Queen from 1950s – 1970s (as well as for many films). Royal Warrant holder.

Freddie Fox – Australian– often worked with Hardy Amies (Made hats for the Queen from 1968 – 2002. Obtained his Royal Warrant in 1971). Known for his feathers and underbrim styles. Royal Warrant Holder. Artisans who work with the family are often reluctant to share what that process is like, but Trevor-Morgan did say, "When designing a hat for Her Majesty, I mostly collaborate with fellow warrant holder [dressmaker] Stewart Parvin. I receive a sketch and swatches from him and take the hat design process from there. I take into account the color of the coat and print of the dress and also occasion (although we are not always privy to that). It is a huge honor to make hats for The Queen, she has such a wonderful sense of style and has worn so many hats over the years, I feel enormously proud to be playing my part." At George VI’s coronation in 1937, the Queen and Princess Margaret wore little ‘Coronettes’ made by Garrard & Co. Inside the rims, there were little ‘sausages’ made of silk and wadding to make them more comfortable for the little girls - but they still weren’t easy to wear for many hours! It’s a familiar routine for Trevor-Morgan and her team, who have dozens of samples for customers to try on at her studio in St. James. “There’s a wonderful moment when someone tries on samples and gets to the right one,” she said. “Then, hopefully, they go to the wedding, racing event, or wherever and get compliments and feel completely fantastic. And they're hooked!” Marie O’Reagan – of the London College of Fashion - replaced Valerie Lee to work with Ian Thomas. Made hats for the Queen until 1993.

Soon, she had acquired many other pairs of earrings that could be worn only with pierced ears, and so in 1951, just before her state visit to Canada, the 25-year-old Queen gave in to the inevitable and had her ears pierced. This pink hat by Angela Kelly, as worn to Royal Ascot in 2016, is definitely my favourite of The Queen’s. One would typically think of berries as more of a Christmas-related trim, but the clusters of pale pink berry sprays across her hat ended up being perfect for a June event like Ascot. The curled white ribbon weaving through the berries adds additional interest to the piece and really ties in nicely with the trim on her coat here. It’s really just a stunning style, and I appreciate the berries as something different when you typically see flowers on a spring/summer hat.

Looking for something different

As babies, the Queen and her sister, Princess Margaret, often wore little caps with lace. The fashion at the time was to dress babies in wool, but the Queen’s Mother – the Duchess of York – reportedly preferred ‘frilly babies’ instead. When she was not wearing her trademark pearls, the Queen opted for pendants such as these dazzling purple stones, part of the Kent Amethyst set, which belonged to Queen Victoria's mother.
