About this deal

It’s made of coated wire which should help it last, and make it easier to use outside. The pen is easy to set up: Just unfold and latch together with the enclosed clips. It folds flat for storage and to be moved, but it can be heavy, so it likely won’t be something you want to unfold and set up every day.

You can set up the pen in a number of different shapes, which is useful if you have an awkwardly shaped outdoor space. If you don’t want to use it all the time, it collapses down flat for easier storage too. The playpen is available in three different sizes from 24-inches up to 40-inches. If you have the space for the larger pen, it’s recommended that you get that one, even if your dog is small, to give them maximum room. It was intuitive to set up and take down,” noted one tester, “and it's still sturdy without being clunky or oversized.”

Finally, you can choose mesh playpens, which are made of even cheaper materials and cost less than plastic or steel, but you are pretty much restricted to using them indoors. Mesh playpens are lightweight, easy to set up and can be transported with no problem, but they have disadvantages as well; like not being able to use them outside. Ease of Setup Water resistant materials in the Richell Playpen offer indoor and outdoor use. The 3-in-1 pet playpen can provide a gate or a room divider. Customizable for a 4 or 6 panel playpen. Also, standing 24”x 24” per panel, the Pet Trex barely suffices for a puppy that’s a few weeks old at best. If you feel that an upgrade might be required sooner than you expect to, then you can opt for the 30-inch version instead. Alternatively however, you might look for pens which are made from transparent or translucent plastic sheeting. This gives you a better sight of your dog from a number of different angles, so you might consider it to be more appropriate for your needs.

Mesh can work for indoor use as well, but a soft dog pen is less durable and the fabric can be chewed through pretty easily (especially mesh doors). To Adjust or Not to Adjust? If you are looking for a canine playpen that can meet several needs, you may prefer an adjustable pen that can change size by using an add-on panel or two. Depending on what type of space you are working with, there are differently shaped x-pens. Some can even be positioned against a wall to be used as a makeshift fence! The cheaper dog pens often don’t include a door or gate for the dog (or you) to get in and out of the pen. That won’t be a problem for some dogs, but if you have one that you don’t want to lift in and out of the pen, it makes sense to get one with an inbuilt door for the easiest operability.

The panels are made of tough stainless steel wireframe and feature a protective Electro-Coat finish that keeps it from rusting. It is rated for use with puppies that are up to 40 pounds and at a price tag that’s at least 50% less than the nearest competition, it offers phenomenal value. Weight is important for two different reasons - you’ll want to be able to manoeuvre the pen reasonably easily, but if it’s very light, you might find some strong dogs can lift it up and escape. Bear this in mind in relation to your own dog when choosing a pen. If the primary purpose for a pet playpen is to create a secure area in your garden, then a durable and sturdy pen is what you need.

This pen comes with or without a door. Unlike some pens that have step-through doors that don’t take up an entire panel, this gate is one of the eight panels and goes all the way to the ground. That makes it a little difficult to use outdoors because it can get caught on grass or turf when opening and closing.

Taking down this pen was very easy, and it was not too heavy so it was easy to carry,” one tester noted. “It also included a clip to keep the pen together while carrying which was nice.”

The EXPAWLORER Portable Playpen is breathable and portable for your and your pet’s comfort. No assembly required, this playpen pops open in seconds and is easy to store and carry. Teh EXPAWLORER comes in two colors: pink and brown The simple, wireframe design makes it a breeze to install. Also, this keeps things bright and airy, just the way doggies like it. We know exactly what just popped up in your mind. How can a plastic playpen withstand the constant pushing and battering that an energetic pup can subject it to?A lot of the initial dog playpens had Velcro on the top and bottom panels to make it easier to attach and remove. However, it didn’t take long for puppies to figure out a way to escape. So, Esk Collection has replaced the Velcro with metallic zippers. This will be impossible to break out of. Also, you can just unzip the bottom panel if you are installing the playpen in the lawn. Also, you can choose a door-less design or one with two doors. The doored design allows you or your kids easy access to the playpen without having to disconnect one of the panels. Some pens don’t have doors, but do have sections that can easily be released and move in a door-like way. It’s generally worth paying a little extra for an inbuilt door if you can, though. However, the gauge of the steel isn’t the heaviest that we have seen. It is very durable, mind you. But may not be as heavy as the Midwest one in this list.
