About this deal

The aim of thissummer bridging work is to help you make the transition from GCSE to A level study as smooth as possible. There are a series of tasks listedbelow which we encourage you complete based on your subject options. a) prior to the end of the school term prior to the summer holidays if they were registered for Free School Meals on 30 May. b) by the end of the second week in January if the request to register for Free School Meals was made after 30 November

Finally, SSEA (the Stanford Summer Engineering Academy) is a four-week program where students come to campus to partake f in Math and Computer Science classes and community-enhancing experiences. As its name suggests, this is intended for students who have at least some interest in majoring in engineering, although that is not a requirement.Students in any of these programs who identify as first generation/low income are eligible to apply to attend a final one-week residential program called THRIVE that takes place in early September, before other first year students arrive.

b) A child/young person is also eligible to receive Free School Meals, where the household is in receipt of: Children/young people who receive Free School Meals as a result of local authority discretion, including those with no recourse to public funds, are eligible.

Children/young people receiving Free School Meals based on universal provision (P1 – P5) are not eligible. Children receiving free lunches in Early Learning and Childcare settings are not eligible. Eligibility for Free School Meals has been identified as the means to identify those children/young people from low income households – only those of school age [P1 – S6 education] who receive Free School Meals on the basis of low income or on local authority discretion are eligible. At the time of the announcement, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “Rather than looking forward to Christmas, too many families will be dreading it because they don’t know if they can afford to heat their homes or even pay for food. But all is not lost as most councils will pay the money out in early January if you are late registering your child, but it's recommended you do it as soon as possible to ensure you qualify for the support. The ‘Post 16 Mindset’ offers a framework to help with motivation, organisation, effort, and attitude, whilst the ‘Worcester Working Week’ provides guidance on the amount of time that you should be spending on College work, and enrichment. Several tasks have been attached to this area to help familiarise you with these principles. Please complete the tasks and bring them with you to your first tutorial session at College in September. At Worcester Sixth Form College we are looking forward to welcoming you as our students and newest members of our community.
