About this deal

This does not mean, though, that there’s anything polite about the S95QR’s sound. It delivers the crunches of punches, the hardness of gunfire and the whoomph of explosions with great impact – much better impact, in fact, than its predecessor managed. Connectivity: 2x HDMI inputs, 1x HDMI eARC, optical digital audio input, USB port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 If you’re counting, you’ll realise from the above that the main soundbar carries five channels of sound: centre, front left, front right, side left and side right. It’s worth saying that some aspects of the speaker design have been improved over the S95QR’s predecessor. The woofers in the main soundbar are bigger, enabling them to produce a wider dynamic range and shift more air, while the subwoofer driver has increased to eight inches from the predecessor’s seven. The S95QR is widely available across the world, with seemingly no direct replacement likely during 2023. Design

It’s a relief, too, to find the new channels LG has provided seemingly helping the S95QR avoid the sometimes rather vague and unbalanced staging that we’ve experienced with one or two LG soundbars of the past.Netflix-approved: LG OLED achieved Netflix Recommended TV status in 2017 and 2018 for its fast and user-friendly experience. Extra features: Passthrough support includes 4K, Dolby Vision HDR, VRR, ALL; hi-res audio file support and Meridian Music mode; AI sound processing sharing with LG TVs

Dolby Vision™: LG OLED TVs are compatible with HDR formats including Dolby Vision, which enhances your picture frame by frame. The S95QR comes with Google’s Chromecast built-in. Working in conjunction with streaming services such as Spotify, Google Play and Deezer; this lets you hook up with your favourite music from your smartphone or tablet. With TuneIn, you also get access to a massive range of Internet radio and podcasts – all easily accessible. If you’re looking for a super-powerful soundbar capable of filling a large room with a potent, well crafted, detailed and fully surround sound Dolby Atmos soundstage, the S95QR is exceptionally well qualified. As the world’s first soundbar with triple up-firing speakers, the LG S95QR has you surrounded like no other. Combined with the Atmos rear speakers, you get five channels of up-firing sound, giving sensational results with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Add this to the nine channels of conventional surround sound, plus a subwoofer and the result is the most immersive audio from a soundbar to date. LG officially launched its S95QR flagship sound in 2022, but unusually it has continued the model on – keeping its flagship status – for 2023.

It doesn’t take long listening to the S95QR to tell that it’s comfortably the best soundbar LG has ever made. In fact, for movies and gaming in particular, it’s one of the most satisfying home theater soundbars we’ve seen from any brand, period. Ports:2x HDMI in; 1x HDMI out (eARC/ARC); Digital optical; Speakers:17 (Specified: 2x left/right stereo; 1x center; 1x center height; 2x surround side; 2x rear; 2x rear height; 2x front height; 1x subwoofer; 2x rear surround side) Following the recent ‘mega update’, the HDMIs can also pass 4K/120Hz gaming feeds from the latest games consoles and PC graphics cards – still a very rare feature in soundbar circles. Audio file support includes AAC, AAC+, MP3 C4A, OGG (up to 48kHz) C4A, AAC C4A, FLAC, WAV C4A, and LPCM, and the firmware update also, excellently, added support for the lossless MQA standard supported by Tidal and Spotify. The main soundbar, for instance, manages to cram in front left, front right, front center, side left, side right and three up-firing drivers. Premium Atmos soundbars typically only carry two up-firing drivers, but LG has added a third that essentially repeats the sound coming out of the more regular forward-facing center channels speaker below it.

The LG S95QR ups the ante by adding a centre height channel to the company’s flagship Dolby Atmos soundbar

The LG S95QR is an impressive soundbar system that creates a fully-immersive bubble of sound around the listener. The addition of a centre height channel helps create a wall of sound at the front of the room, while the rear speakers ensure plenty of surround presence. The LG S95QR talks a very good game. For starters, it pushes the idea of what constitutes a soundbar to its limit by constituting four separate components: the main soundbar, a large subwoofer and two multi-channel rear speakers.

For hardwired connections, there are eARC, optical and USB inputs, as well as two additional HDMI passthrough ports that support gaming features such as (VRR) and (ALLM). However, 4K HDR signals are only handled at up to 60Hz.

The main soundbar sits low and wide, providing plenty of space for the speakers to operate without it butting into the pictures of most of today’s TV designs. Its sharp edges and corners and felt-covered front and sides combine with an elegantly brushed finish top edge to striking effect, while the addition of three grilled circular speakers within that top edge adds to the high-tech feel. If you can’t resist the temptation of bringing more of the S95QR’s many speakers into play with music, the AI Sound Pro mode really does make music fill your room, giving it a compelling surround element while also expanding the dynamic range to create a fuller, more Atmos-like experience. Needless to say the S95QR sounds outstanding with actual Dolby Atmos music mixes.
