About this deal

Brugse Zot will keep for 24 months in the bottle and for 12 months on tap. Keep upright in a dark, cool and dry place, the larger 75 cl bottles are preferably stored horizontally.

Brugse Zot is one of only two kinds of beer that is still brewed in the historical centre of Bruges, which makes it pretty special. We’re sure that any Belgian ale enthusiasts out there would love to get their hands on some! It is a very thirst-quenching, sparkling and refreshingly fruity beer with plenty of herbs. In the nose you immediately get aromas of citrus and hops.Brugse Zot popularity has grown over the years due to its refreshing taste and unique character. This character has come about due to it being brewed with four different types of malts and two types of aroma hops. The finished product is full bodied with a sweet malt character which is nicely balanced with fruit tones and is followed with a crisp and clean finish. Brugse Zot also goes through a re-fermentation that helps develop the taste while it’s in the bottle.

Our expansion

The launch of Straffe Hendrik – still the brewery’s flagship beer - heralded the era of strong degustation beers at De Halve Maan. Its brewer is the oldest in Bruges, based in its historic city centre, and also well known for its ... Brugse Zot is served in a tall, tulip-shaped, long stemmed and branded glass that allows the aromas to develop beautifully. The active and successful export activities of De Halve Maan also mean the beer is easily procured outside the country and online.

Once the brewery was restarted, Xavier bought Brugse Zot onto the market and it soon gained a name for itself due to its special recipe. Brugse Zot is now the only beer being produced in Bruges town centre. Australian International Beer Awards 2012 - Zilveren medaille voor Brugse Zot Blond in de categorie Belgian & French Style Ale - Abbey Blonde Brugse Zot comes in two forms, with the Blond as its flagship, and a Dubbel rounding things out. Quintessentially Belgian, the beer has a big body, with fruity banana notes from the yeast blended with complimentary hops. Secondary fermentation in the bottle leads to a long maturation process and a soft carbonation. It’s a beer that gets better and better. For many centuries, the people of Bruges have been known to their Flemish neighbours, as “Bruges Fools”. How did they get this name? A couple explanations run around today. The most prevalent is that Emperor Maximilian of Austria, who had acquired Flanders through his marriage to Mary of Burgundy, was staying in Bruges at the end of the 15th century to watch the famous yearly Holy Blood Procession. The day after, the citizens of Bruges asked him to sponsor the creation of a ‘fools house’, an institution for mental illness. The emperor responded’“ Just close the city gates. Bruges is one big fools’ house! ” During the procession the day before, he had seen the burghers of Bruges jumping and fooling around. The procession is a lot of fun, and the most festive day of Bruges. Australian International Beer Awards 2012 - Bronzen medaille voor Brugse Zot Dubbel in de categorie Belgian & French Style Ale - Abbey DubbelThere are taste impressions of malt and bread, lemon and herbs. The carbon dioxide gives a taste explosion in the mouth. There is a pleasant bitterness and a dry finish. Water, house yeast, pils malts and speciality malts, Styrian Golding and Hallertau aroma hops. Colour & Transparency Het winnen van verschillende kwaliteitsprijzen voor het bier en de stijgende populariteit ervan zorgden ervoor dat de brouwerij haar capaciteit meerdere keren diende uit te breiden. Brugse Zot is a very drinkable thirst-quencher with bags of character, brewed with four varieties of malt and two types of aroma hops. Thanks to re-fermentation the taste evolves in the bottle. The blonde Brugse Zot has now acquired a dark sibling: the strong, full-mouthed Brugse Zot Dubbel, brewed with Saaz hops and six specialty malts.
