About this deal

this book only made me wish for dual pov’s in the entire series, and it honestly would’ve made the experience ten times better! Since he was well aware that they both took delight in hurting everyone else that they could, how could he have thought himself safe? A rare second volume that surpasses the first, with, happily, more intrigue and passion still to come. I will (hopefully) read many many more books in my life, but none of them will make me feel the way this book - this entire series - has.

They’re just so damn cute and good for each other, which is why Jurdan is one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers couples. Not to make this too deep, but Cardan very slowly realizes that he is not responsible for the terrible acts his family committed; both to him and to the people they ruled over. Sure, she's an important character, and I don't completely hate her anymore because of the third book, but seeing Cardan and Nicasia but not so much of Cardan and Jude?In this sumptuously illustrated tale, Holly Black reveals a deeper look into the dramatic life of Elfhame's enigmatic high king. We get to see Locke, and his empty house and even emptier heart, teach Cardan the word “cruel” on every page.

They truly brought these stories to life and gave them the magical quality of an old-time fairy tale. How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories is a breath of fresh air—the fairy tale atmosphere, the razor-sharp wit, the allure of the fey.Readers familiar with Cardan and Jude’s tumultuous and sometimes troubling love will recognize notes within this repeated tale, but each telling also stands alone as a complete tale, one that feels both inevitable and fresh. A heady blend of courtly double-crossing, Faerie lore, and toxic attraction swirls together in the sequel to THE CRUEL PRINCE. I hate that this was a novella and not a whole novel because diving into Cardan’s mind was such an interesting little adventure. I truly think reading this book a day before release (bless you Waterstones and my mail person) was the best reading experience I’ve had all year, and for that alone this book was probably the easiest five star I’ve given in a year of not a lot of five star reads. He forms such an imperative part in what makes Elfhame and so by being inside his mind you are also inside Elfhame and I love that.

Cardan is my favorite character in The Cruel Prince series (or any of Holly’s books, I think) and this truly was such a magical, wonderous, unforgettable addition to this world. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up this book and started reading but it still blew all my expectations away.charmingly told and stunningly illustrated, this is a wonderful collection of short stories narrating select moments in cardans life before, during, and after the events of the ‘folk of the air’ series. Although, despite its short length, I will say that I absolutely adored the tale of Cardan’s ‘inconvenience’. She tells a story about a boy with a heart of stone, who finds himself in a predicament with a monster girl who won’t scare him away, until his heart starts beating again.
