I can’t speak for that lived experience, but it’s like made into a big thing and so this was just a little thing that bothered me because I didn’t even find out how tall she was exactly until like 3/4 through. It’s so bad, and that’s even before you get into the nitty-gritty of how atrociously Josh treats her. And I would love to have in depth discussions with fans of the book for their take on both characters connection together and their individual characters and backgrounds. Every day Lucy and Josh work across from each other in a single shiny office, silently hating each other. The agreement being that the one who doesn’t get the promotion has to resign so the stakes are high.

Lucy narrates how nice it is to feel smothered by a guy who’s a foot and a half taller than her and built swole, and all I felt was suffocated — like, cool if that’s your kink but it was presented as what every red-blooded girl wants. The two major plot-twists towards the end were completely predictable for me but the story and the characters were enjoyable and engaging notwithstanding. But, like I'm sure a lot of people can relate with, her desire to be liked by others often meant she was taken advantage of. Usually it’s the woman in fiction who worries about her appearance and doubts that the man will like her enough, etc. As Lucy and Josh spend more time together outside of their office, we see how this relationship has hope.At a company paintball event a few days later, Lucy collapses due to a fever and is brought home by Josh, who has her checked by his brother Pat, a physician. Later that evening, Josh invites Lucy to his apartment and reveals that he has a strained relationship with his father because he dropped out of med school, while his brother was always the favorite. The phrase show don’t tell applies significantly to Thorne’s characterisation and provides its readers with a lesson on creating memorable characters. If you like pink that doesn't mean anything and if you like blue that doesn't mean ANYTHING AT ALL EITHER. When she discovers that he is carrying around a hot bod she is all over him yet still is unable to see that he is quiet in his ways – possibly because with her he lights up and is comfortable regardless of whether they are fighting or getting on.

What I loved in it the most is that the whole story is a gigantic cliche, however, the way it’s implemented felt fresh and entertaining. I read this in the middle of the night and spent the entire time giggling and smiling, because this book was just a blast. The next day they are at a workplace team building exercise where the two end up collaborating and protecting each other and Joshua senses that Lucy is unwell. I absolutely love hate-to-love trope, it makes the banter between characters fun and entertaining and here it was the best.

This bestselling, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy is an unmissable treat, perfect for fans of Christina Lauren's UNHONEYMOONERS or Emily Henry's BEACH READ. I’m definitely willing to try again with Sally Thorne, though I’m hoping her next book will be a bit more realistic. In the meantime, there are snarky comments, smouldering stares, sneaky side glances, jealous outbursts and feisty arguments to keep the reader enthralled in the enemies to lovers plot. Honestly, that's one of my biggest issues when reading: unnecessary fillers or there not being enough time for feelings to really develop. It was obvious very early in book that he fell for Lucy as soon as he saw her and didn’t know what to do with his feelings nor had the courage to voice it. The sudden announcement of a promotion that would make one of them the boss of the other is a game-changer; the tension between them escalates as they each work on their own applications but are also forced to work together in other ongoing office projects, including a team-building retreat. Except it’s SO obvious to anyone but Lucy that he is super into her and in fact does not hate her at all.
