Description

A bit like an extension lead, but sturdier and with built-in current protection - the Eurohike Mobile Mains Kit is essential for using electrical items like a fridge or lights, or for charging mobile devices, while you are at the campsite. We tend to get electric hookup if it's available, but mainly just to charge our phones and put the fan/heater on.

You can carefully check if there is power at the van end of the cable with either a multimeter or one of the little screwdrivers that light up.We don't as a general policy investigate the solvency of companies mentioned (how likely they are to go bust), but there is a risk any company can struggle and it's rarely made public until it's too late (see the Section 75 guide for protection tips). The Ceeform connectors will tolerate a bit of rain as long as they're not actually lying about in a puddle, but it's important to make sure that any 13A plugs/sockets will stay dry. It was the actual blue connectors that are 16amp rated IP44 that I was referring to and didn't mention the breaker which I should have done. Once you know the amperage needs of all the devices you’re likely to run in your ’van, total up any you plan to use simultaneously to make sure the demand is within the hook-up’s maximum supply rating. Neither of those linked to are safe to use from a hookup point to a caravan, trailer, or especially a tent.

We have a great slimline induction hob that has been pretty life-transforming We also run a fridge, kettle, toaster, lighting (the lighting is also solar powered if we're not on electric), as well as the usual tech chargers. I'm now on my second New California- I P/E the first after less than 3 years ownership from new and it needed yet another roof repair. It runs the fridge, heater, lamps, electric hobs, mini oven, kettle and the pump for the beds and sofa. Most points are just a case of pushing the cable into the point but sometimes you have to twist it to lock it in place. These sockets are the kind with a hinged cover over the plug(s), and a tight seal around the live parts when snapped shut.

Mine is now going back to SMG next week, 10th month into trying to fix the 240V charging system and I'm getting a little irritated. The socket you plug into will most likely be a 2P+E 16A Ceeform, so assuming you're camping in a tent as opposed to plugging in a van or a caravan, you'll want an extension lead with a blue 16A plug on the end. I completely stand by the IP44 cert products (and not misleading at all) – they’re MUCH more safer than a standard domestic multiplug. Useful for the kettle (quicker than the gas stove in the mornings for a cuppa and also for hot water for washing up), charging phones/iPads and also for a heater at the start/end of the season. Bare this in mind when you plug things in as you can easily trip out the post if you are overloading it, you may also trip out your fellow campers ( yes I have seen it happen ).
