About this deal

Paul Barber and Deborah Robertson have put together a fabulous, informative and valuable book that addresses one of nursing's key roles. More case scenarios have been added to encourage nurses to apply knowledge to a range of different people with a range of needs.

This pharmacology book is very accessable to student nurses upwards, it creates a great starting point and has enough information to help you to continue to build upon phamacological knowledge, and the tests at the end of the chapter help you to cement your knowledge. Deborah Robertson is Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing and Pharmacology in the Faculty of Health and Social Care at University of Chester, UK. Calculation of drug dosage is an area of pharmacology which fills many student nurses with dread and the calculation questions in each chapter provide a chance to test and improve calculation knowledge and gain confidence. provides excellent case studies that [make the subject] come alive by engaging with and applying the theory to realistic patient scenarios along with the very practical 'clinical tips'.The best features of this book for me were the learning objectives outlined at the start of each chapter, which allowed me to decide on the chapter’s relevance to my learning.

The book does not assume previous knowledge of pharmacology, or a level of confidence with maths and drugs calculations. The book contains:*120 calculations and 130 multiple choice questions to assist you in assessing your learning as you work through each chapter*Clinical tips boxes linking pharmacology to nursing practice*50 person centred case scenarios across a range of practice settings*References to key standards and guidelinesThe book also emphasises the application of the principles of pharmacology to all areas of practice and includes; drug action, drug interactions, side effects and adverse reactions. I found this book easy to read and it covered all the relevant topics around the pharmacology of medication. Biography: Paul Barber is Senior Lecturer at the University of Chester, UK and a registered adult and mental health nurse possessing over 35 years experience.

I feel this book covers went into enough depth to cover all of the basics necessary for a good understanding of pharmacology, though if I required to look into a particular type of drug, I may refer to something more detailed. Patient scenarios from a range of different clinical settings, demonstrating pharmacology in clinical settings The book emphasises application of pharmacological principles to all areas of practice including drug action, interaction and side effects.
