Elmer's states that its wood glues aren't made from any animals or their hides; these types of materials are often a component of other traditional types of wood glue. For a stronger bond I have had really good luck with an epoxy on one part and a bit of super glue on the other, makes the epoxy into an almost instant set. If you want the resulting glue joint to be moisture resistant (it'll still eventually dissolve or break down given enough exposure to moisture), use yellow glue -- and specific yellow glues at that.
It’s also sandable, paintable and waterproof and works on a variety of surfaces including stone, metal and wood. If I am building a model that needs plenty of strength and will be painted, I will often use yellow glue.
I don't know what additive they put in wood glue that makes it yellow but I'm sure it makes it a little more water resistant. One of the first finished projects in this house was the assembly and installation of our walk-in closet.
Yellow glue has better 'grab'- you can just move the workpiece back and forth a bit until it stiffens up. One more new one that you may not be familiar with: gorilla glue (the brown kind for sure, I haven't tried the others) is handy stuff sometimes too. I needed the ballast to shift the CG forward due to the surface area and location of the forward fins. For parts that slide together - such as gluing a coupler into a body tube - use white glue (Glue-All) not wood glue.Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centres that host Etsy. Too much white or wood glue can cause the body tube to swell ever so slightly, and you'll see the bulge. For me, I've kind of reverted over to using the wood glue more than the white glue, it's kind of become my new everything glue, except when I need to use a Liquid Nails or a Gorilla glue for some specific application. All tutorials and demonstrations are not intended to be professional advice (nor substitute as such), and I make no guarantees to the information provided. Most PVA-based wood glues, such as the kinds that end up in Elmer's products, aren't extremely water-resistant.
