About this deal

However it was still useful considering I had no knob (or at least «easy to reach» knob) to control loudness in my first setup, where I had the turntable conected to this and then directly to active speakers. Hey guys, I currently have a Fluance RT85 with the ART DJ PRE II preamp and Edifier R1850DB powered speakers. DJs use it for its powerful sound, as do podcasters who play vinyl tracks, because the phono preamp also excels in conjunction with audio interfaces. But I found the more practical solution is to set it up with one of those multi voltage, multi pin universal AC power supply/battery eliminator adapters that was big in the late 80's/early 90's, and set it up for 12 volts. Device also features low-impedance line output jacks that can work with any sound card, RCA input/output connectors, and heavy-duty rugged aluminium chassis.

My experience was I sold mine because it didn’t sound any better than a phono preamp on a Marantz 2235B amp. with other projects now but I will be using it on my computer and receiver eventually to check it out. The NES power adaptor has a big power brick and was made in Japan in the 80s, so it's of a much higher quality. What you want to make sure of doing is setting it so that is does not stay illuminated red, and that it only occasionally turns red, or flickers.I did not take a look-see at the circuitry encased, so I cannot comment on the quality of the components within. And afterwards, you would have to remember to turn it back down - otherwise the AppleTV would be ear-shatteringly loud!

Unlike many other phono preamps, this one has an easy gain knob that lets you dial in a specific amount of amplification. The ARTcessories line is designed to deliver solutions for a number of audio needs - like having phantom power, having one or two more mixing channels, testing cables, headphone processing, preamplification for microphones and turntables, and many more real-world applications. I have the DJPREII between a Technics SL-1200MK7 and a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 audio to USB interface. In this way, the signal of a turntable can also be fed to the AUX inputs of mixing consoles, sound cards, or tape decks.

We are breaking new ground here with our first test of phono pre-amps so expect future measurements to vary based on feedback to this thread.

Combined with the recording software I have chosen, the digitized version is almost indistinguishable from its analog source (to this old man’s ears), so what more could I ask for? I could not get circuit diagrams for the Creek for some reason, but from my vague recollections the circuit design was very similar to the 1616m, and also the Lehmann Black Cube phono stage (and others). If you need to amplify and EQ your vinyl records to interface with your audio workstation, sound card, home stereo system or main monitor system, the DJ PRE II gives you flawless audio reproduction in a rugged and reliable package. Expense wise, I guess one could say, it’s right on the money, but would it be sufficient to fulfill my needs? No joke, this thing throws enough light to illuminate every corner of my 12 x 15 music room at night.

I think folks who don't know how to properly adjust it are trying not to have the green light stay on continuously. So if you're someone who has a turntable that doesn't have a ground wire, then there's potential that you may not need it with this pre-amp.

The ART DJ Pre II phono amplifier can, for example, be integrated into DJ setups in which very old-school turntables are used.
