About this deal

Both brands also share similarly distinctive green bottles but the Brooks Rare Old blend was already in this bottle. The firm has been a supplier to every British monarch since the coronation of King George III in 1761. Eddie agreed to supply Charlie with the new Justerini and Brooks Rare Old whisky, the blend which would soon outsell Cutty Sark.

Why the new English owner kept the Italian "Justerini" name rather than "Johnson" could be due to the importance of 'Foreign Cordials' to the company and the lingering connection with their original maker. The General Wine Company sources wines from all over the world, but with a particular focus on small, independent producers. Towards the end of the war, Hugh Anderson met Eddie Tatham, a junior officer who author Dennis Wheatley described as being 'tall, fair, good looking, with enormous charm and a delightful wit'.

Justerini and Brooks was founded in 1749 by Giacomo Justerini from Bologna, the son of a distiller, and English investor George Johnson. This was also the age when branding emerged as a way for one company to distinguish and promote their product over that of its competitors. Thousands were poverty-stricken farm labourers, forced off the land by the mass evictions that arose as a result of the Inclosure Acts. Justerini was just one of the many migrants who had flocked to the city; he was in pursuit of love while most others merely sought food and work. The blend itself is made with a combination of 42 Scotch single malts and grains, with a generous portion of Speyside whisky at the expression's core.

Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product.Justerini and Brooks continued to support Eddie and pay his legal fees, costing the firm nearly 20% of its profits, even covering his expenses which must have included that unused train ticket. When friends or new acquaintances meet over a drink, the conversation enviably leads to the swapping of stories. Blending together 42 different whiskies the flavour is a wonderfully nutty combination of sweetness and spice. Legend has it, that at this moment, a Number 15 double-decker bus with the destination 'Paddington' passed. This light, Speyside-style blend has grassy notes, with crystalized lemon slices, Bramley apple peel, woodsmoke, and almonds.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The blend contains more than 40 individual whiskies, with Speyside malts at its core, and in particular its ‘heart malt’ Knockando, along with Auchroisk. The taste can best be described as somewhat nutty, grassy, and fruity — made out of four different whiskies all blended together, this is a complex but light blend that's sure to be a firm favourite once you've tried it in your usual whisky cocktail. Despite the name, its flavour is not bitter at all, with the strong aromatic flavour, powerful with gentian and spices. In its apothecary style bottle we won’t blame you if you claim each sip of Monkey 47 Sloe Gin is ‘purely medicinal’. The constant noise and dust that followed from the rebuilding work proved another challenge, but the business survived and prospered.

Like the previous owner, Cole was reliant on Thomas Walker to run his newly acquired enterprise and a year later made Walker (no relation to Johnnie Walker) a partner in the firm.

The Buckingham Corporation was very successful at selling Cutty Sark but after a falling out Charlie Guttman walked away from the partnership. His cargo was famously termed the 'real McCoy' due to his reputation for only carrying unadulterated cargo.
