Description

He certainly prefers to encourage his old cronies and brothers in arms to settle in his domain where they can enjoy the fruits of their predators completely undisturbed. I wish they’d taken this chance to add some more diversity into the pirates chosen but other than that it’s a straight forward reprint. And with that, in the board game Jamaica you and your friends are set to race around the island of Jamaica, capturing treasure, battling your opponents, and trying to be the first one back to Port Royal! And then after consultation with their own cards they work out which die is to be allocated to the day phase, and which to the night.

It’s always a good idea to load up on food, money and gunpowder, but loading has an additional complication – whatever you load up can only go in an empty hold. The thing that keeps it from greater accolades in this review is that in the end it just feels a little bit flighty. Choose Card Each player chooses an action card (discards are shuffled to form a new deck if required) and puts it facedown across their discard pile. Granted, your choices are fairly limited by the three cards you have in your hand at any one time, and it’s either collecting some resources or moving some spaces around the island, but it’s all about choosing the right cards at the right time – which is an interesting challenge in itself. Actions The Captain turns over his action card and carries out his morning action (top left), then his evening action (top right).Jamaica is essentially a pirate ship racing game for 2-6 players designed by Bruno Cathala, Malcolm Braff and Sebastien Pauchon. In February 1678, after a long career of piracy, Henry Morgan cleverly manages to get himself named Governor of Jamaica, charged with driving out pirates and buccaneers! The sea spaces are well defined and it’s easy to identify the food consumption needed for your crew.

The dice determine the amount for each action–the morning action on the left and the evening action on the right. Yes, you’ll know if one is coming up in the deck if it doesn’t exactly match but since you have to take the top treasure card regardless, it makes no difference to the outcome. We play with it all the time (and our cards aren’t even a close match because I stink at anything resembling arts and crafts) with no problems. Then each player picks one of their cards, with the icons in the top-left/top-right being what they will activate that turn, according to the dice that were just rolled.
