About this deal

Wenn man ein und dieselbe CD zwei mal hat, spricht das ziemlich eindeutig dafür, dass diese Musik gefällt. In Martin Popoff's 2016 biography of Yes, the album is credited with being part of a "new wave" of British progressive rock which also helped to give a second life to earlier bands.

The quality of MP3 download just isn't up to scrutiny once you play this piece on a decent audio system, so the re-mastered CD looked the way to go. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. after a recent Marillion rebirth in my CD collection I'm now aquiring the full back catalogue of the 'early' (the best years in my opinion - sorry Steve H) albums. Script for a Jester's Tear is the only studio album by Marillion to feature the band's original drummer and founding member Mick Pointer, who was dismissed following the album's UK tour. This was Mick Pointers' only Album recording as he was eventually replaced by Ian Moseley for the second album Fugazi. It's an astonishingly confident debut destined never to be bettered, but thankfully now given a remastered new life, with extensive notes from all involved in the booklet plus earlier material and demos collected on disc two. Neither "Market Square Heroes", nor the B-sides of the 12" single, "Three Boats Down from the Candy" and the 17-minute-long epic "Grendel", were included on Script for a Jester's Tear, although a short radio segment of the A-side can be briefly heard prior to "Forgotten Sons".

If you can get hold of "Recital of the Script" on DVD, a live recording, you can see this world writ large: energetic yet poetic music from an astounding band. Considering the band at this time was labelled Prog Rock, there was none of the over-the-top improvisation that the genre is normally given. I love this album as a whole: superb music, detailed lyrics and fantastic cover Artwork create a unified vision that Marillion had spent the proceeding few years creating.John Franck has given the album a retrospective rating of four-and-a-half stars out of five on AllMusic. The first single, " He Knows You Know", preceded the release of Script for a Jester's Tear and launched the group into the Top 40, reaching number 35.

One of my favourite albums the genius of Fishes lyrics and the guitarist Steve Rothery talent combined to make some fantastic songs. In the title track a convoluted web of lyrical imagery invests its prosaic lost-my-girlfriend theme with a tortured passion previously alien to prog rock.
