I appreciated the references to Jurassic Park that were sprinkled here and there, despite the fact that they may or may not have made sense (working 20 plus year old battery powered goggles and jeep that starts and runs simply by installing a new battery). Universal's 4K release of Dominion is at least a spectacular one, affording fans both cuts of the film - and the longer cut is marginally better though, unfortunately, also even longer - as well as fabulous native 4K video with Dolby Vision, and a thumping DTS: X soundtrack, along with a bunch of decent extras.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe. The entire dinosaur plot line could have been axed completely and it would have been a perfectly serviceable mad scientist film. It wasn't 1993's Jurassic Park - hell nothing has come close - but it was a fun effort, leading to a whole new trilogy which, again much like the Star Wars features, struggled with not knowing where the hell it was going.

But through its several faults, Colin Trevorrow managed to pull together a decent enough and entertaining send-off for the franchise… for now. It WAS also really neat to see Lewis Dodgson be the villain for the series being that he was the guy who kick started the hullabaloo in Jurassic Park 30 years ago (he was the guy who paid Wayne Knight’s character to smuggle out the Barbasol can of dino DNA samples) and bring things back full circle. Very few series have been able to keep pumping out movies for almost 30 years, and even more importantly, maintain at least a modicum of the viewership numbers. So yeah, it’s a race against time with Owen and Claire hunting for Maisie, and Ellie and Alan hunting for the mysterious locust proof AT the Bio-Syn facility which is where a vast majority of the escaped dinosaurs from Fallen Kingdom are being kept for observation.

Aside from the cardboard cutout villain, rehashed peril from bone crunching apex predators and a potential world threatening blunder derived from what began as good intentions, we good a decently fleshed out story on Maisie’s background, meaningful integration of Jurassic characters past and present, and a few nice little touches that serve as an homage to both eras.I liked the reinforcement of the relationship between “Blue” and Owen and thought that the new character in Maisie had excellent potential that isn’t fully realized.

Blacks are dynamic in appearance and shadow detail is revealing of appreciable levels of delineation in dark backgrounds and low lighting. While the Jurassic World trilogy on its own was a bit dodgy, each film was at least a terrific offering for Blu-ray 3D and that continues with this exciting release of Jurassic World: Dominion.
